Announcing Paid Summer Internships for 2011 at Westside School

Description: 

The internship with Westside Elementary School’s Summer Camp is designed for those wishing to increase their experience in the field of environmental education. Working with our outdoor adventure day camp, interns will be immersed in a cutting edge camp program. Each intern will be involved in every aspect of the program learning valuable skills such as program delivery, developing new activities, and coordinating logistics.

There is no typical day at camp. Each day is spent exploring the parks and wild areas of the Puget Sound region. Your role is to support lead instructors and act as a mentor to campers. 

Interns will earn $9/hr and work full time, up to 40 hours each week, including one-on-one mentoring sessions insuring greater understanding of new skills and our unique education methods. 

Availability: 

We are seeking 2 interns for the 2011 summer season. Priority will be given to those who can commit to the full six weeks of our camp program July 11th to August 19th.


Qualifications: 

– Must be at least 18 years of age with two years academic background in environmental studies, ecology, education or equivalent experience. 
– Interest, education or experience working with children 
– Good communication, public speaking, and leadership skills required. 
– Must have certifications in first aid, CPR and life-saving, or ability to obtain. 
– Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record desired
– Experience conducting outdoor activities with children desired 

Physical Demands: 

Applicants must be able to meet certain physical requirements in order to perform the essential functions of this position. This is an active outdoor camp, and interns may be expected to do some light lifting.
