[event]]: Earth Day Trashion show

My name is Josh Cowgill and I am helping organize a trash themed fashion show for Earth Day on Friday, April 20th from 2:00 – 2:30pm (preparations begin at 1pm). It will be held in a temporary pavilion in Red Square as a part of Husky Fest.  We are looking for anyone interested in designing an outfit.  The design does not have to be original to this show, but should follow the theme of reuse of materials that are considered waste.  Mostly, we would like people to join in and to have fun!

So if you, your club or someone you know is interested in partaking, contact me (Joshua Cowgill) by email: cowgijos@gmail.com, or phone (206) 941-6042.   This will be great for promotion as thousands of students, faculty, staff, and community members celebrate UW’s 150th anniversary in conjunction with Earth Day.  Also, designers’ information will be posted on the special event website:  http://www.washington.edu/huskyfest/

The only restriction is that materials should be reused from what is typically looked at as waste.  Materials such as: cardboard, paper, plastic, glass, metal and maybe even food waste!  Seeing as time is short, the requirements for a piece are also flexible.  We can talk through an idea and see how it can fit in.

This event is open to anyone!  The idea is to promote students and clubs, and most importantly to change people’s perspectives of “waste.” Come to a design workshop on 4/8 and 4/15 in Gould 114 from 12pm to 4pm.  Ideas, help, and some materials will be provided!

So start looking at your trash differently.  Try to envision an outfit with every piece of trash. Then take it, and make it brash!  Show everyone that waste is only a paradigm, and much of what we consider waste is still useful.

Thanks,

Josh
