PoE Alumni Board opportunities – graduating seniors & current students

The PoE Alumni Board is now accepting applications for the 2012-13 academic year. If you are a graduating senior, this is a great way to network, stay connected with PoE, and build up your resume. The application should not take a lot of time to fill out, and the deadline for applications in Friday, June 29th.

Current students – we also need one student rep on the alumni board for the year. You can be an important liaison to connect alumni with the interests and needs of students still in the program.

Current students and/or graduating students use the same form.

 – Helped with establishing the PoE Environmental Leadership Scholarship. This new, merit-based scholarship has been created to support current Environmental Studies Majors. Applications have already been collected at PoE for two, $1,000 awards to be given for students attending in autumn quarter of this year. Board members helped with fundraising for the Endowed Scholarship Fund, gave input on the criteria for evaluating applicants, and will send a representative to participate on the committee to review the applications. Stay tuned for news about the scholarship recipients!
– Established a quarterly ‘PoE Community Drinks event’ for the whole PoE community: alumni, current students, faculty, and staff. The two events hosted so far had great turnout with over 30 attendees at each event.
– Helped to plan and run 6 career skills workshops for current PoE students. The workshops in resume writing and job interview skills are now available to any PoE student, and alumni volunteers receive training and materials from the UW Career Center.
