Healthy Farms and Healthy Families Campaign Internship
Food & Water Watch works to ensure the food, water and fish we consume is safe, accessible and sustainably produced. So we can all enjoy and trust in what we eat and drink, we help people take charge of where their food comes from, keep clean, affordable, public tap water flowing freely to our homes, protect the environmental quality of oceans, force government to do its job protecting citizens, and educate about the importance of keeping the global commons—our shared resources—under public control.
We are currently seeking spring interns interested in working for healthy farms and healthy families in Seattle, WA. This position typically runs at least 10 weeks, for 10-20 hours per week. Current student standing is not necessary. We are seeking interns to operate based out of Seattle, WA.
Potential Intern Positions:
Coalition Coordinator
· Build a broad coalition in support of the campaign
· Contact potential coalition partners to brief them on our campaign’s goals
· Recruit and train volunteers
· Attend weekly core group meetings, keep track of our progress in recruiting coalition partners
Grassroots Coordinator
· Work with project coordinator and organizer to set campaign goals for grassroots tactics such as gathering petition signatures
· Track and record the petition signatures we receive
· Train volunteers in petitioning and other grassroots tactics, attend weekly meetings
Media Coordinator
· Work with project coordinator and organizer to decide campaign strategy and goals for media coverage
· Write news advisories and releases for campaign events
· Make press calls to pitch stories and events and convince them to cover our campaign, cultivate relationships with reporters and editors
· Recruit and train volunteers, attend weekly meetings
· Track our interactions with the media, monitor the press we get on new and traditional media
Requirements:
Strong interest in food and environmental issues and commitment to social change. Desire to develop campaign organizing skills.
