The College of the Environment presents the 2012 UW Environmental Career Fair to be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the MGH Commons.

Talk to representatives from environmental government agencies, non-profit organizations, and private sector companies.  Many will have internship and career opportunities.  No matter what stage of the environmental studies major you are at, all are encouraged to stop by.

The course will be focused on water and especially on the operation of public policy, law, and customary practice as forces that shape how water is used and understood. While the course will study examples from a number of countries and focus broadly on the challenges of achieving and maintaining just, sustainable and environmentally sound water allocation, our location in Spain will offer unique opportunities for the course. Spain is a country where aridity and intense pressures for water-dependent development have combined to produce serious challenges surrounding water availability and allocation. Water issues in Spain are vivid and pressing, involving questions of fairness and sustainability, and there is a new focus on the impact of water institutions as part of the social fabric and as important structures in the country’s physical and social landscapes. We will be working in and coming to understand the Spanish countryside through the lens of the nation’s water policies and focusing, too, on globally significant questions that will help us understand the challenges of effective and just water governance

The application due date for the 2012 Master Naturalist Training Program is quickly approaching (January 6, 2012), and we are still looking for interested applicants.   If you could please pass the attached documents onto any individuals, students, interns, or volunteers that you think might be interested in this free natural resource continuing education program it would be greatly appreciated. 

This year we have a wonderful group of instructors, including resource professionals from the University of Washington, Seattle University, People for Puget Sound, Mountains to Sound Greenway,  Seattle Public Utilities, Washington Department of Ecology, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Herrera Environmental Consultants, United States Department of Agriculture, King County, and many more!

One of the most frequently asked questions that students ask about is where to get started in an internship search.  “Where do I go to find an internship?"  "Which internship is best for me?"  "How do I apply for internship?"  Here are some resources to help you get started:

If you would like to get credit for your internship (or required to get credit), please come see Joe or Stanley for an internship form.  Generally, students should get this set up before the first week of the quarter in which you wish to earn credit.
