A Bait Experiment to Improve our Citizen Science
I assisted in creating a bait experiment for the Washington Sea Grant’s Green Crab Monitoring Program in an effort to evaluate their citizen science methodology. Through a series of trap and bait combinations across five sites of the Puget Sound we concluded from the experiment that minnow traps are most efficient for both research methods and citizen science use, and that using cat food as the preferred bait type is more cost effective, and easier to handle with little to cost to trapping effectiveness.
