During our project, we worked with two other students to restore a 15,000 square foot plot of urban forest in Lincoln Park, West Seattle. With guidance from Sharron Baker, the lead volunteer of Friends of Lincoln Park, we learned the basic techniques of urban forest restoration in the Pacific Northwest as set by the Green Seattle Partnership. Our goal was to remove the dense cover of invasive species that had taken over, altering the future succession of the coniferous forest. After removing invasive species, we planted native species in hope that they would establish a more historically relevant, and ecologically valuable ecosystem.
