During my project, I worked in an urban Seattle forest putting a 2,000 acre plot of land into restoration. Over the course of these three months, I participated in the same type of stewardship work that FLiP volunteers do and I learned about how community-based restoration groups function. I was interested in understanding why people volunteer for these projects and what constraints limit community involvement, as well as how this information could inform outreach strategies to recruit more volunteers. My hands-on experience with this type of organization helped to inform my research questions.
