Environmental Youth Programs: Motivations & Barriers
Environmental Youth Programs provide opportunities for youth to explore environmental issues. They provide many benefits including positive youth development. However, recruiting youth to participate in these programs have been difficult. Using literature review, research, and my internship experience at Seward Park Audubon Center, I identified possible barriers and motivations that may engage or prevent youth to participate in environmental youth programs. Findings show reasons for participation varies depending on location. Further recommendations include, continuing research to identifying motivations and barriers, to accommodate for the factors to perform outreach more effectively, and an increased funding for environment youth programs.
