My internship with the EPA’s agricultural advisor consisted of compiling crop fertilizer guidelines for the WA National Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) nutrient management standards in order to reduce nonpoint source water pollution. The NRCS standards to which I contributed are referenced in WA State agricultural Best Management Practices (BMPs) for that reason. The day to day aspects of my internship included data management and internet research to locate these fertilizer guides on Land Grant University webpages. I also presented the list to the NRCS technical subcommittee for nutrient management as the only source of fertilizer guidelines in WA State BMPs.
