Many families find that there are accessibility barriers to farmers markets that prevent them from attending. I wanted to research this problem during my internship with the Carnation Farmers Market. I facilitated an educational and interactive children’s program (Market Sprouts) and was interested in researching how implementing such a program can increase accessibility to a farmers market, and thus alter children’s nutrition. I surveyed parents to determine the value and impact of such a program and I found that an educational children’s program integrated into a farmers market setting encourages families to attend market, which improves household nutrition.
