During my internship, I was tasked with developing strategies to identify facilities that were not reporting to the EPA’s Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) program. The deliverables required of me included: 1) developing a process and criteria for identifying “never reporters” of discharges – this included tracking the progress during the identification stage; 2) producing a written report that included a strategy and timeline for identifying TRI“never reporters”; 3) creating a spreadsheet that includes some identified “never reporters” who should be inspected and a process to track the facilities that were evaluated but do not qualify; and 4) presenting the strategies developed to inspectors in a formal informational session.
