For my capstone experience, I interned at IslandWood, an environmental education camp located on Bainbridge Island. My time was split between educating children about ecology, sustainability and conservation, and producing two short promotional videos for the IslandWood website. The combination of experiential and media-based educational platforms inspired me to research the vital role of the natural world in a child’s health, development and well being. Any amount of exposure to nature is better than no exposure at all, and, if not readily accessible, technological nature can be used in conjunction with nature-based experiences.
