During my internship, I assisted in the beginning phase of the two-year long Pesticide Reduction Pilot Project with Seattle Tilth and Puget Sound Partnership. The project aimed to reduce the use of chemical-based lawn care products through retailers by offering alternative, incentiv- ized products. I was interested in how nonprofits can partner with retailers to educate consumers on environ- mental issues. I also conduct research on targeted chemi- cals and consumer motivations and needs with regard to chemical-based products use. This research enabled me to see the issue from the consumer perspective and to consider approaches to convince them to use non-chemical lawn care products.
