My capstone focused on coastal climate change adaptation and how to aid decision-makers in overcoming challenges faced with it. Adaptation is planning, preparing for, and managing the effects of climate change, and it requires attention. I analyzed a survey administered by Washington Sea Grant to coastal practitioners and city officials assessing where they were in the adaptation process. In addition, I conducted a literature review of landslide management techniques as a surrogate management strategy for considering coastal climate change adaptation. The use of a surrogate management plan makes the issue more tangible, which aids decisionmakers in overcoming challenges and implementing adaptation techniques.
