My research project looked into the best way tribal traditional ecological knowledge can be used to improve environmental stewardship and relationships between governmental and tribal agencies. This knowledge is intergenerational, deep ecological knowledge of the environment that indigenous people possess. It is shared through cultural practices and teaching the skills of subsistence living. Throughout my internship at the Environmental Protection Agency, I conducted research on a collection of different ways the use of Alaska Native’s environmental knowledge was able to be utilized to improve and influence policy, research, and community development programs.
