My internship with the Carnation Farmers Market aimed to support and develop its children’s program. My research question was focused on how children’s programs, like the one I was developing, could support a change in our current food system. I conducted scholarly research on environmental education and consumer perception of farmers markets, surveyed farmers market managers on their attitudes and experiences with children’s programs at their markets, and analyzed the information in order to develop activities that could engage children and support markets. I discovered that farmers markets provide a unique niche for children’s programs and food education.
