The aim of this study is to explore fundamental reasons of why water pollution is still left as an unsolved problem in China even though the local government has already paid high expenditures for solving this hazard. During my internship at ERM in Shanghai, China, not only assisted both on site and off site, but also interviewed Chinese environmental experts and found the most frequently mentioned challenges were corporate irresponsibility, lack of citizen’s environmental awareness, and outdated infrastructures. With the possible solutions this study offered, these aspects are important to be considered to help other developing countries to plan ahead.
