In addition, we highly encourage you to also attend an abstract-writing workshop prior to completing your application.

Abstract Writing Workshops are tailored to students who are applying to the Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium, but are open to everyone.

The abstract writing workshop includes information on what exactly is an abstract, how to write one, and what information to include. If you already have a draft, you may also bring this to the session for feedback.

Undergraduate Research General Information Session

URP Information Sessions address how the Undergraduate Research Program can help the student pursue her/his research interests.

Primarily for undergraduates who have yet to begin research, the sessions provide research resources, information on funding, and suggestions for approaching faculty. Additionally, the sessions are highly student-driven, with an emphasis on student questions and concerns. Students interested in attending the UW, including community college transfer students, are welcome to the sessions.

[funding] – UW Campus Sustainability Fund – over $70,000 to give away!

Do you have an idea for how to make this campus greener?

Are you a student group looking for funding to put on an awesome event about environmental sustainability? Or put water bottle filling spouts on the water fountains on campus? Or maybe increase awareness of composting and recycling to increase environmental awareness?

The Campus Sustainability Fund will be accepting the second round of applications on Feb. 20th. You can apply by emailing your project idea with a budget request to csfcoord@uw.eduThere is over $70,000 to give away.  Projects under $2,000 can be submitted on a weekly basis.

Sierra Club’s Environmental Apprenticeship Program is an exciting opportunity for recent college graduates.

Paid internship
Duration: 6 months

                      

This program is available to any and all seniors interested in making our world a cleaner, healthier and better place. The Sierra Club Environmental Apprenticeship Program is designed for resourceful, conscientious and motivated individuals interested in legislation, media and community outreach as a means of promoting green initiatives.

Apprentices will be exposed to a variety of work experiences including but not limited to grassroots organizing, administrative policy advocacy and public communications while being trained and guided by a team of experienced Sierra Club staff. The Program is a wonderful stepping stone for a recent college graduate interested in working in the environmental, advocacy, policy or non-profit field.

Attend a Study Abroad 101 Information Session (NEW):

General study abroad information sessions are held every Wednesday, from 4-5pm, in 490 Schmitz Hall. If you are unfamiliar with UW study abroad programs and processes “Study Abroad 101” is a good introduction that will provide you with details about program options, credits, financial aid, and next steps.   

Meet with an IPE study abroad advisor (EXPANED)

Once you have narrowed your options to several programs or locations, visit IPE and meet with a study abroad advisor to discuss your selections and ask questions. Study abroad advisors are available to meet on a drop-in basis Monday-Friday, from 10am-4pm, during autumn, winter and spring quarters and from 10am-2pm during summer quarter.   Program evaluations written by former UW study abroad participants are also available for your review in UW Study Abroad

You can also meet with a study abroad advisor for “International Quick Questions" in the Center for Undergraduate Advising, Diversity, and Student Success located in 141 Mary Gates Hall each Wednesday from 1:30-3:20pm.

[scholarship] – Bob & Eleanor Grant Trust Scholarship – $15,000

The Bob & Eleanor Grant Trust provides scholarships for first-generation college students studying natural or environmental sciences or social science with an environmental focus. The Trust can provide scholarships of up to $15,000 per year that are renewable based upon satisfactory student progress.

The priority of selection criteria is: 1) need 2) passion 3) merit.

Eligibility

We are looking for students who are:

  • First-generation college students (neither parent graduated from a four-year college).
  • Planning to become a professional in natural or environmental sciences or social science with an environmental focus.
  • In need of financial assistance to complete college.
  • Residents of the state of Washington for at least 24 months prior to applying. (Students may attend any accredited college or university in the U.S.)
  • Entering the second year of a program at a two-year college or will have attained junior status at a four-year college.

Students must meet all eligibility criteria to qualify
