The Mary Gates Endowment for Students is currently accepting scholarship applications. Mary Gates scholarships provide up to $4,000 ($2,000 per quarter for up to two quarters) for students to pursue leadership or research/scholarly activities. These scholarships benefit students in the current academic year, and are open to all UW undergraduate students regardless of class year, major or residency status.

We are now accepting applications for internships in 2015.
The Cardigan Bay Monitoring Project is based in New Quay, West Wales, and supports the conservation management of the bottlenose dolphin, harbour porpoise and grey seal populations of Cardigan Bay, monitoring their abundance, distribution, reproductive success and population structure using a combination of vessel-based, land-based and acoustic surveys. Sea Watch has been monitoring these populations on behalf of the Welsh government (through funding provided by the Countryside Council for Wales, now called Natural Resources Wales) for over a decade. Cardigan Bay contains Britain’s largest coastal population of bottlenose dolphins, for which two special areas of conservation have been established under the EU Habitats Directive.
Every year, Sea Watch Foundation recruits three type of interns to support the work of the project: research interns, a research assistant and intern coordinator and an education and public awareness assistant.

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is seeking qualified applicants to lead, educate, and inspire high school studentsfor the summer of 2015. SCA is America’s #1 Conservation Service Organization.
National Conservation Crews consist of two leaders and a crew of 6-8 high school volunteers, ages 15-19. Crews live and work in spectacular national parks, forests & refuges across the United States. Two leaders camp with their crew in front country or backcountry sites and work to complete conservation projects in trail building & maintenance or invasive species control. Typical programs are 15 to 35 days in length, starting the beginning of June through the end of August.
National Crew Leader applicants will also be considered for placements leading local high school students on SCA’s regional crews and Youth Conservation Corps programs.

Give informational talks throughout the 3-4 hour tour, covering whales, other marine life, plants, birds, the whole ecosystem and general information about the San Juan Islands. Give personal attention to guests in the form of courtesies and information. Prepare the boat before the trip including washing windows, laying out seat cushions and cleaning the boat. Assist guests aboard and with disembarking, and ensure each child under 12 years has a properly fitted life jacket. Assist captain with anything they need, including managing fenders and dock lines.
