[student job] – UW FYP Student Coordinator

First Year Programs is currently seeking applicants for the position of Student Coordinator.

The Student Coordinator in the Office of First Year Programs (FYP) functions administratively and programmatically in support of all transitional programs for which the office is responsible.  These programs include Advising and Orientation, Freshman/Transfer Interest Groups, Dawg Daze, Transfer and Commuter Programs, and Husky Adventures.  This is a position of significant responsibility, open to all currently registered UW undergraduate students, who are available to work in a year-round capacity.

Sustainable Living Community in new LEED-certified Poplar Hall – Opens Fall 2011!

The College of the Environment is partnering with Housing and Food Services to offer a new residential community for students interested in sustainability and the environment locatedin the brand new LEED-certified residence hall, Poplar Hall. The Sustainable Living Community will offer residents the opportunity to explore environmental impacts and live and learn with other students interested in sustainability, as well as the social events, friendships, academic support and opportunities to become involved found in all UW residential communities.

The College of the Environment staff are Campus Partners for this new community and will provide insight and access to programs and opportunities such as tours of campus and area sustainability resources, informal gatherings with faculty renowned for their environmental research, and information on how to “clean green.” Students will enjoy the opportunity to participate in the One Thing Challenge and to create a Sustainability Pledge to their own unique commitment to sustainable living.

Poplar Hall is conveniently situated in the vibrant West Campus community close to classes and The Ave. With the largest residence hall rooms on campus, Poplar Hall will feature spacious bedrooms with bathrooms, energy- and water-efficient design with a thermostat in each room, Wi-Fi and Ethernet ports, and an allergy-free community kitchen facility.

Current residents living in the University residence halls system, including Stevens Court, have priority and should complete the ‘Returning Resident  2011 – 12 Application” between April 5 – 11. Students in all majors are welcome and can indicate their interest by selecting the Sustainable Living Community in the Theme Community Preference portion of the housing application and will complete a personal Sustainability Pledge to be eligible.

UW Spring Career Fair at Hec Ed! – April 14th

The annual UW Seattle Spring Career Fair is being held from 3-7pm on Thursday, April 14th, 2011 in Hec Ed Pavilion.

Green Corps Program!

Green Corps’ Field School for Environmental Organizing trains college graduates to run environmental campaigns, starting by building a core group of activists and finishing by convincing decision-makers to pass laws, change policies and create reforms to protect our environment.  But Green Corps is more than a school – it’s a real-world endeavor.  Trainees start working on campaigns from the start of their education.  They make a difference, starting on Day 1.

Green Corps’ one-year, full-time, paid Field School for Environmental Organizing includes intensive classroom training, hands-on field experience running urgent environmental and public health campaigns, and career placement in positions with leading environmental groups.
