EXECUTIVE/LEGAL ASSISTANT – SEATTLE

Van Ness Feldman LLP is looking for a talented Executive/Legal Assistant, who will work closely with and support the needs of several attorneys in the Seattle office. The position will support attorneys who are at the forefront of today’s energy, environmental, and land use/real estate issues.

The ideal candidate will be a recent college graduate or highly adaptable individual who is familiar with legal and political processes, proficient with Microsoft Office, and is eager to learn. This position will provide an opportunity to gain valuable experience and insight into the intersecting fields of energy, environmental issues, real estate, and policy.

Typical tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform complex word processing, including drafting correspondence and business documents, and formatting, managing layout, and editing documents for accuracy and consistency.
  • Create or compile supportive graphics, charts, and diagrams; reports; and relevant research.
  • Proofread documents; provide original feedback considering document’s tone, persuasiveness, clarity, and overall message.
  • Finalize daily time entries for billing personnel.
  • Establish and maintain filing system for records, files, and documentation. Maintain confidential materials and records.
  • Schedule, maintain, and prioritize calendars, meetings, and travel arrangements.
  • Coordinate hospitality for visiting guests/clients.
  • Answer phones and return calls as needed.
  • Perform expense reconciliation and reporting.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 2+ years of administrative/office experience.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and team-oriented philosophy.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office, especially Word and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to handle administrative details with minimal supervision.
  • Integrity and the ability to use discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred; concentration in law, political science, business, communications, English, environmental studies or technical communication a plus.

We will spend the morning restoring riparian habitat, followed by FREE fly fishing workshops for all skill levels, guest speakers, and delicious lunch in the afternoon! Volunteers will improve habitat by removing invasive plants and maintaining weed suppression fabric. Enjoy a lunch spread (vegetarian options available) and learn from local specialists who will be providing casting and tying demonstrations, one-on-one lessons for all skills, a native plant walk, and an aquatic insect identification lab. The art and sport of fly fishing requires passion and knowledge of river ecology as well as proactive conservation. This is an event not to miss!

 Duwamish River Festival is looking for volunteers on Saturday, August 23rd.

As a volunteer you will get some delicious (and free) tacos from local food trucks as well as a free t-shirt.

With over 20 different jobs, there should be something for everyone: there are medical assistants as well as supervisor positions, and everything from a mascot salmon and bouncy castle supervisor to safety and directional positions. Most jobs require a time commitment of ~2 hours, and you are welcome to sign up for multiple shifts if you have the time.

Urban Forest Educators are volunteers who engage young people in the restoration of Seattle’s forested parks and greenspaces by leading environmental learning and stewardship opportunities.

As an Urban Forest Educator, you will:

· Receive training on Pacific Northwest forest ecology, habitat restoration, and environmental education techniques for diverse audiences.

· Lead learning and stewardship events (interpretive forest walks, invasive plant removal, native plant installation, and more) in Seattle’s urban forest with young people.

The UW Farm Education Coordinator

 The UW Farm is looking to fill its Education Coordinator position. This volunteer position is open to all applicants and will require a weekly time commitment, with the ideal candidate in the Seattle area over the summer and into the 2014-15 academic year. Applicants don’t need to be expert farmers, just willing to learn and share their knowledge. This position will allow you to gain confidence teaching others and try out new ideas and teaching methods in a low-stress environment.

 Responsibilities

The Coordinator will oversee volunteer “Educators” to work with children in an outdoor/farm environment with a focus on experiential education as part of the Bean Sprouts youth education program.  Additionally, the Coordinator will plan tours for UW classes and connect students to food and agriculture at UW.

 

Qualifications

Applicants should be organized and reliable and able to work with other Farm Leaders and coordinate volunteers, run a calendar of events, and work with UW Faculty. Applicants must be able to pass a criminal background check.
