Olivia Horwedel is a graduate student in the Geography Department at the University of Washington, as well as a graduate from the School of Marine & Environmental Affairs and the Department of American Indian and Indigenous Studies. Her research addresses the intersections between marine conservation ecology, Indigenous knowledge, and regenerative food systems. She has been involved with the Urban Farm course throughout the duration of her education at UW, working as both a teaching assistant and instructor. Her passion for food stems from her upbringing in Michigan, working on the University of Michigan’s campus farm, and traveling around the world working on farms and in food production from Hawaii to Aotearoa (New Zealand). In addition to her interests in terrestrial food systems, Olivia works with Cross-Pacific Indigenous Aquaculture Network, a collaborative dedicated to strengthening community access to traditional and customary foods while increasing local seafood production. In her free time, Olivia loves hiking around Washington, cooking meals with local foods, making art, and swimming and tidepooling with her dog, Maple.
