Joy works collaboratively with students in developing meaningful educational goals that align with each student’s values, abilities and life goals. She encourages students to think critically and build a framework that identifies resources and guides their action steps. Joy brings to her position a background in academic advising and science education. Outside of work, she enjoys puzzles of all kinds, urban hiking, and any chance to spend time with family on nearby Whidbey Island.

Mia supports student engagement initiatives, outreach, and communications for PoE, as well as coordination of the PoE time schedule and other program support. As an alumni of the program, she is thrilled to be working alongside the dedicated staff and faculty to further PoE’s goals and mission of cultivating environmental changemakers. Outside of work, Mia enjoys hiking and backpacking, playing soccer, and exploring Seattle’s green spaces with her dog.


Derek Lee

Derek is passionate about supporting students to connect with resources that will help them identify and attain their educational and professional goals. With a background in environmental sociology, he is especially excited to hear from students about their interest in the intersection of natural and social sciences. Outside of work, he enjoys playing board games and learning more about the ocean and most of its strange and delightful inhabitants.

Courtney provides administrative and program support for PoE.  She enjoys the resources and beauty of our natural world, and is delighted to support PoE’s mission of building an informed, creative community of learners working on today’s biggest environmental challenges.  Off-campus, she is usually found climbing a steep trail or tending to a beloved, if maybe too big, garden.


Amy Feldman-Bawarshi

Amy provides program coordination support for PoE and especially enjoys projects and tasks that support the health and vitality of the PoE program and the committed faculty and staff who comprise PoE. When she is not working, Amy enjoys spending time with her dog and four cats, growing plants and vegetables in her garden, and reading nonfiction and fiction works on various topics including the environment, equity, and the multitude of human experiences.
