Transfer Students

Transfer students are a welcome addition to our Environmental Studies major bringing diverse life experiences, academic backgrounds, and personal strengths that enrich our classrooms and communities.

Prepare for Transfer

The Environmental Studies major has minimum admission requirements which may be completed during your first quarter upon admissions to UW. Transfer students may use transferrable, equivalent courses to satisfy some of the major requirements including those needed for declaring the major.

It is helpful to transfer in with as much of your general education complete as possible; here are specific requirements for the College of the Environment.

Many students will have access to equivalent courses to help satisfy some of the areas of Integrating Disciplines. Some common examples include BIOL 180 for Biological Systems, ECON 200 for Economics/Business, and STAT 220 for Analytical Methods.

There may be courses available to you that center on environmental topics, including environmental science and sustainability, and depending on the content, they may be helpful in satisfying our first Core Class ENVIR 100 or an Integrating Disciplines course.

For prospective transfer students studying in Washington state, consult the UW Equivalency Guide to verify transferability of coursework. Also, read more from the Office of Admissions about applying to the UW as a transfer student, and if in the Seattle area, consider attending an in-person UW Transfer Thursday event.

Schedule an Advising Appointment

Prospective transfer students are welcome to schedule an ENVIR advising appointment prior to application to learn more about our program and how to maximize their transfer credits.
