Academic Student Employment with the Program on the Environment

The Program on the Environment offers work opportunities for both graduate and undergraduate students.

Student Academic Employees at the University of Washington are governed by a contract between the University of Washington and UAW. Details of the contract may be found UAW Academic Student Employees (ASEs) Contract.

Graduate students are eligible for salaried appointments with PoE.  PoE appoints Teaching Assistants (TAs) every quarter, and less frequently, Research Assistants (RAs).  These appointments are paid at the general rates, set by the University for graduate TA and RA employees, according to the graduate student’s academic rank.  To learn more about Graduate Assistantships, please visit the Graduate School’s website.

PoE also hires hourly for the following ASE job titles as needed. Beginning on 7/1/23, the 2024-2025 hourly rates will be paid at the following rates:

• $30/hr – Graduate Reader/Grader, Lab Support
• $40/hr — Graduate Field Course Support
• $25/hr – Undergraduate Reader/Grader, Lab Support
• $30/hr — Undergraduate Field Course Support
• $21.57/hr– Undergraduate Peer Teaching Assistant
• $20.76/hr – Undergraduate Research Assistant
