The PoE Alumni board is hosting a spring career skills workshop on all about the job interview. Any PoE student wishing to learn or develop skills relevant to interviewing for environmentally-related jobs is welcome – majors or minors in Environmental Studies. This workshop will be staffed by volunteer alumni of PoE undergraduate and graduate programs. It’s a great chance to build job search skills relevant to your degree, and you can also make great connections with environmental professionals.
The workshop will consist of a group presentation about interview basics, a panel Q&A, and an individual ‘mock’ job interview for a position with an alumni volunteer. There will be a chance for both individual and group feedback.
Food and drinks will be provided.

[event]: Tools for Tomorrow talk at Seattle Central Library

Join us for an evening with guest speaker Hunter Lovins, President and founder of Natural Capitalism Solutions, as she leads the Tools for Tomorrow Industry Innovator Forum to discuss the business case for gross national happiness.
Recently returned from a United Nations panel organized by the Permanent Mission of Bhutan, Lovins will continue the conversation on how to achieve this more holistic measure of a nation’s wealth, exploring the current state of the global economy, and describing the major challenges we are facing in the midst of an oil crisis and climate change. She will invite discussion to propose solutions to foster a more sustainable model of growth.
After diving deeper into the context, Lovins will survey a solution that combines international leadership, smart policy at the national level, action by states and provinces, a suite of market-based measures, and a growing commitment by individuals to create the future we want. Drawing on extensive material covered in her most recent book, The Way Out: Kickstarting Capitalism to Save Our Economic Ass, Lovins’ detailed stories of international and domestic examples will paint a vivid picture of hope and possibility.

[event]]: Earth Day Trashion show
My name is Josh Cowgill and I am helping organize a trash themed fashion show for Earth Day on Friday, April 20th from 2:00 – 2:30pm (preparations begin at 1pm). It will be held in a temporary pavilion in Red Square as a part of Husky Fest. We are looking for anyone interested in designing an outfit. The design does not have to be original to this show, but should follow the theme of reuse of materials that are considered waste. Mostly, we would like people to join in and to have fun!
So if you, your club or someone you know is interested in partaking, contact me (Joshua Cowgill) by email: cowgijos@gmail.com, or phone (206) 941-6042. This will be great for promotion as thousands of students, faculty, staff, and community members celebrate UW’s 150th anniversary in conjunction with Earth Day. Also, designers’ information will be posted on the special event website: http://www.washington.edu/huskyfest/.
The only restriction is that materials should be reused from what is typically looked at as waste. Materials such as: cardboard, paper, plastic, glass, metal and maybe even food waste! Seeing as time is short, the requirements for a piece are also flexible. We can talk through an idea and see how it can fit in.
This event is open to anyone! The idea is to promote students and clubs, and most importantly to change people’s perspectives of “waste.” Come to a design workshop on 4/8 and 4/15 in Gould 114 from 12pm to 4pm. Ideas, help, and some materials will be provided!
So start looking at your trash differently. Try to envision an outfit with every piece of trash. Then take it, and make it brash! Show everyone that waste is only a paradigm, and much of what we consider waste is still useful.
Thanks,
Reminder: PoE Community Drinks Social on April 11
Hope you can make it! [For more information]
