The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Environmental Health and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (NCEH/ATSDR) are offering a paid 10-week summer internship program for students who are passionate about the environment, interested in human health, and curious about how they are linked. During the course of the internship, students are introduced to environmental health at the federal level through collaborative projects, experiential learning opportunities, environmental health presentations, journal clubs, field trips, brown bag lunches, and mentoring relationships at NCEH/ATSDR.  Interns will be based at NCEH/ATSDR’s Chamblee Campus and will be paid a stipend of approximately $600 a week during the course of the program.

Hours: The internship may work part time (approximately 15-20 hours a week) during the regular school year within the hours of 7:00AM – 5:00PM, Monday through Friday.

Peer TA for Environmental Studies 100: Interdisciplinary Foundations

The Program on the Environment is currently accepting applications for 3 peer TA positions for the winter quarter 2013 offering of ENVIR 100: Environmental Studies 100: Interdisciplinary Foundations. Peer TAs are registered undergraduate students with superior qualifications, who are trained in teaching skills, and serve in the same capacity as graduate student TAs. This is an exciting opportunity to gain valuable teaching experience while still completing your undergraduate degree. This would be especially valuable to students interested in environmental education or for students interested in applying to graduate school.

The total time commitment is anticipated to be approximately 15 hours per week. As a Peer TA, you will be responsible for attending the lecture for ENVIR 100 (3 hours per week), attending a weekly instructor meeting (approximately 1 hour per week), and managing one discussion section (2 hours per week). Additional tasks include: preparation for your discussion section; meeting with students during office hours, extra help or review sessions; and grading.

Peer TAs will earn academic credit (1-5 credits, variable, of ENVIR 498, graded).

Kenai Watershed Forum’s summer 2013 environmental internship
opportunities are primarily geared towards undergraduate students but
also open to graduate students.   The Kenai Watershed Forum (KWF) is a
non-profit organization dedicated to maintaining the health of the
watersheds on the Kenai Peninsula in south central Alaska.  Every
year, KWF selects several highly-motivated students from top
university programs and provides them with a one of a kind learning
experience working on critical environmental projects.  Interns are
expected to work 10-12 weeks, typically from mid to late May to mid
August, although start and end dates are a bit flexible to accommodate

Help to develop an implementation  plan for a paper towel composting pilot project on the UW Seattle campus.

UW is interested in exploring how paper towel composting would be implemented on the Seattle campus by conducting a pilot study.  The student would research best practices to how other companies or educational institutions have set up a program and will work on proposing an implementation plan.

Internship will be 10 weeks long, 12-15 hours a week. Flexible schedule. UW Recycling & Solid Waste is flexible in terms of days and hours worked and will work with the student(s) on  establishing a schedule that works best for everyone. Ideally the schedule should be consistent consistent from week to week and that the hours worked are in alignment with the hours the office is open (7:30am to 4:00 pm, Monday thru Friday).

[internship] Intern with companies to help clean up Hanford

Come join the fight to clean up the Hanford site in Richland, WA by interning this summer with a coalition of different organizations! These intern programs allow students to obtain real world experience in their field of study and each intern is assigned a mentor that works with the student during the entire internship. All internships are paid and salaries range with experience ($18 to $32 an hour). There is an expected 60 to 70 internships available. Read below to learn what each organization is responsible for.

Department of Energy (DOE) oversees the projects associated with cleaning up the reactors, soil, groundwater, solid waste burial sites, and also manages the demolition of facilities, and the disposition of the remaining plutonium left on the site.

Mission Support Alliance (MSA) is responsible for services such as safeguards and security, environmental integration, site infrastructure and utilities, site business management, information resources and content management and portfolio management.

Washington Closure Hanford (WCH) is responsible for remediation and restoration including decommissioning and demolition of buildings and ground water remediation

Washington RIver Protection Solutions (WRPS) is responsible for developing new systems and technology that will help remove waste and sludge from old storage tanks.

Description: The outreach intern position will support this work through a range of possible tasks including but not limited to writing blogs, taking photos of existing projects, attending CSF or related events, researching potential classes to visit, and speaking to student groups about what the CSF is. Tasks can be developed with some input from the intern based on experience and interests.

An intern will gain experience in basic outreach tactics as well as exposure to some of the amazing work going on and around campus related to sustainability. Upon successful completion of the internships term the intern will also receive a written evaluation of their work that can be used for other job/internship interviews in the future. This is also a strong introduction to the CSF’s processes that would put a student in a good position to seek future involvement with the CSF.
