Location: The marine science internship program takes place at the University of Delaware’s College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment 

Students between their junior and senior years will receive preference. Applications from women and members of minority groups are especially encouraged.

Interns will work with faculty and research staff in a graduate student atmosphere on a research topic in chemical, physical, or biological oceanography, marine biology, marine geology, or marine biochemistry.

Interns will work semi-independently on a project designed by the intern and assigned faculty advisor (see previous Summer Research Projects and assigned advisors) present written and oral reports at the end of the summer.

The program will run for 10 weeks (Monday, June 8 – Friday, August 14). Interns will be expected to attend weekly seminars presented by faculty and research staff.

good for the environment?

Public Relations and Social Marketing firm Colehour + Cohen (www.colehourcohen.com) is looking for dynamic, paid outreach interns for part-time work from January – August 2015.

Interns will be part of a team doing on-the-ground outreach to homeowners in King, Kitsap, and Pierce Counties, engaging the public with free giveaways and educational materials, helping them understand how they can reduce their energy consumption, and encouraging them to take simple steps at home to help save energy.

The successful candidate will have:

• A love for interacting with people

• Ability to multi-task

• Ability to talk to people while staying focused on campaign goals

• Flexibility

• Great communication skills

• Proactive and able to work well alone or with others

• A valid driver’s license

• Reliable transportation

• Be available to work weekend events

Desired but not required:

• Experience educating the public about environmental issues

• Knowledge of environmentally friendly products and practices, especially as pertains to

energy efficiency and energy conservation

This is the perfect opportunity for the right applicant to jump into a high-level outreach situation

and get their hands dirty, have some fun and see what it takes to run successful consumer-
focused events. Applicants will also receive in-depth training on successful outreach strategies

and learn how to take their skills to the next level. This position is paid at $15.00 per hour and

travel expenses are covered where applicable. Successful applicants will need to be available,

at a minimum, for afternoon-evening shifts for the following dates:

• January 27-30

• February 10-13

• March 17-20

• March 31-April 3

NHTSA’s Region 10 Office in Seattle, Washington, is offering multiple
paid summer internships positions this year. The focus of each public
health related internship will be variable, involving bicycle and
pedestrian traffic safety, a program evaluation of the Federal
Bike-To-Work Challenge, or another highway safety focus area of mutual
interest agreed upon between NHTSA and each intern. Graduate and

We are now accepting applications for internships in 2015.

The Cardigan Bay Monitoring Project is based in New Quay, West Wales, and supports the conservation management of the bottlenose dolphin, harbour porpoise and grey seal populations of Cardigan Bay, monitoring their abundance, distribution, reproductive success and population structure using a combination of vessel-based, land-based and acoustic surveys. Sea Watch has been monitoring these populations on behalf of the Welsh government (through funding provided by the Countryside Council for Wales, now called Natural Resources Wales) for over a decade. Cardigan Bay contains Britain’s largest coastal population of bottlenose dolphins, for which two special areas of conservation have been established under the EU Habitats Directive.

Every year, Sea Watch Foundation recruits three type of interns to support the work of the project: research interns, a research assistant and intern coordinator and an education and public awareness assistant.

The George Melendez Wright Young Leaders in Climate Change program provides paid summer internships to highly accomplished graduate and upper-level undergraduate students to work on diverse issues related to climate change and its effects in national parks. The internship projects may occur in national parks or program offices and are designed by National Park Service (NPS) staff to meet high-priority needs of parks and programs. General topic areas include resource conservation and adaptation; climate effects monitoring; park facilities adaptation; policy development; sustainable operations & mitigation; and communication, interpretation, or education.

Interns in 2015 will work on a wide variety of projects available, including: monitoring ocean acidification and intertidal biological communities; supporting a multidisciplinary science team working to respond to and mitigate the impacts of climate change to archaeological resources; developing a predictive model of snow patches likely to contain significant archaeological and/or paleoecological materials; conducting field surveys to determine plant community shifts and diversity changes in response to soil moisture change; developing strategies for how to incorporate climate change adaptation and storm preparedness options into the rehabilitation of historic structures; and creating a web-based template for communicating climate change information to the public.

Internship positions run full-time (40 hours/week) for 11-12 weeks, generally during the summer months. They pay $14/hour plus benefits. Interns are employees of the University of Washington. Most positions come with free or subsidized housing in dormitories or other shared accommodations in parks. They are all rigorous and challenging projects that demand high-level academic knowledge and skills and that afford interns with considerable autonomy and opportunity for leadership under an effective mentor.
