Sustainable Business Consulting (SBC) is a Seattle-based consulting firm whose goal is to lead and inspire business to change the world.

We are looking for an independent, hard-working, motivated intern with a “can do” attitude who wants to learn about business & sustainability. We are in the process of helping build out online learnings on sustainability and area looking for a highly motivated individual to help us with the following:

Internship Job Responsibilities include:

 Conducting in-depth research and analyses on a variety of key sustainability issues

 Researching case studies, readings, and articles around Sustainability and how it relates to 8 different course criteria

 Support the creation of powerpoint presentations and supporting in-person speaking engagements

 General Office Management

 Perform various administrative tasks as needed

Qualifications

 Proven research experience

 Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills

 Business/Executive summary writing experience. Not just academic.

 Demonstrated interest in sustainability as it applies to business management

 Proficient in MS Office suite and PowerPoint, Excel skills necessary

 Quick learner, willingness to take on any task (e.g. data entry, answering phones, whatever is needed)

 Solid work ethic, positive attitude, high standard of professionalism

Timeframe and Compensation

This internship is intended for college or recently graduated students who will be with us 18-20 hours per week for 4 months. Hours and workdays are flexible, but the intern must work in the office 2 days/week, with the 3rd day working remotely. We can work with you and your advisor to ensure you receive college credit for the internship if desired. The position runs from early August until mid-December.

The position is compensated at $12.50/hour. Sustainable Business Consulting is committed to teaching you about sustainable business and supporting your career development. INTERNSHIP IN MARINE DEBRIS AND COASTAL CONSERVATION

 

Want to gain valuable research experience? Contemplating working for a non-profit after graduation? Interested in marine conservation? 

The Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team (COASST) is seeking 2 undergraduate students to assist with a special marine debris project for 2-3 college credits. Each credit requires 4 hours of work per week during summer quarter (June 24 – Aug 23). 

COASST is a citizen science project based at the University of Washington School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences in partnership with local community and environmental organizations, and state and federal agencies. This past year, COASST volunteers have established a photo database of marine debris items from the Pacific Northwest coast.

Interns for this project will analyze a database of marine debris photos collected by COASST volunteers which will help a) create threat maps showing areas where marine debris is most likely to harm wildlife, b) guide beach clean up efforts by prioritizing areas of high threat items c) document especially dangerous debris accumulations.

This position is with the Threatened and Endangered Program on Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune.  Main duties include protection, monitoring and management of threatened and endangered species.  Camp Lejeune has approximately 140,000 acres of forest and 11 miles of relatively undisturbed beach, which are home to several endangered, threatened or otherwise protected species.  Currently, threatened and endangered species on Camp Lejeune include the red-cockaded woodpecker, loggerhead and green sea turtles, piping plover, seabeach amaranth, and rough-leved loosestrife.  Other protected species include nesting bald eagles, and coastal goldenrod.  Duties include the following: – monitoring of nesting sea turtles (daily surveys from May-August, protecting nests from predators with cages)- protection of endangered species sites (signs, painted boundaries, roped off areas, etc)- protection of red-cockaded woodpecker cavity trees from fire (clearing vegetation from around the trees)- monitoring of endangered plants- locating and protecting shorebird (including piping plover) nests,- bald eagle nest monitoring- protecting potential shorebird habitat- GPSing locations of endangered species locations, boundaries, etc.In addition, there will be opportunities to work with the Base Forestry Branch (timber marking, prescribed burning), Land and Wildlife Resources (survey for game species and migratory birds, planting wildlife food plots, assist with wood duck boxes, etc.) and Archaeology.

Basel Action Network (BAN) is a non-profit 501©(3) located in Pioneer Square advocating for global Environmental Justice. Our body of work includes preventing the export of toxic wastes, toxic products, and toxic technologies from the developed countries to developing countries.

 

BAN is currently seeking a programming intern to start as soon as possible. The intern will be responsible for the migration of our current web content (text, tables, graphs and other related material) into our Wiki using Wikipedia Markup. The work will involve copy, pasting and then properly formatting the text.

 

Knowledge, familiarity and comfort with formatting web content into Wikipedia Markup is a requirement.

You must know how to format the following in Wiki Markup:

·         Basic text formatting (italic/emphasis, bold, strike, indent, etc.)

·         Page formatting (headings, horizontal rules, ordered and unordered lists, etc.)

·         Data Tables, Images, and Links formatting

·         Referencing and Citing

[internship]: COASST Internship in Conservation Biology and Marine Ecology

INTERNSHIP IN CONSERVATION BIOLOGY AND MARINE ECOLOGY

Each credit requires 4 hours of work per week during spring quarter (June 24 – Aug 23).

COASST is a citizen science project based at the University of Washington School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences in partnership with local community and environmental organizations, and state and federal agencies. COASST volunteers collect data on beach-cast carcasses of marine birds on a monthly basis to establish the baseline, or ‘normal’ pattern of beached bird mortality on North Pacific beaches. Baselines are crucial for assessing the impacts of oil spills, fisheries, and climate change in the marine environment.

Nature Vision is a non-profit environmental education organization founded in 2003 based in Woodinville, WA. Our mission is to foster citizen appreciation and stewardship of our environment through integration of school, community, and nature education. Nature Vision (NV) serves over 44,000 students annually, more than many nature centers in our area. In 2010, the NV team received the Michael Mercer Water Conservation Educator Award with partners for our work on the Sammamish Watershed Festival. NV was also honored with the 2007-2008 Environmental Education Association of Washington’s (EEAW) Award for Organizational Excellence.

Internship description

Duties include but are not limited to:

 Aiding naturalists with presenting environmental education programs to: summer camps, schools, libraries, and other groups from the Nature Vision menu of programs. Training is provided. Most of programs will be in Redmond area.

 Prep and clean-up of materials for camps and presentations

 Office projects as needed by staff

Start Date: 6/17/13, negotiable depending on school needs

End Date: 8/30/13 or earlier depending on school needs

Hours: 15-30 a week, unpaid

Minimum Qualifications: Working on bachelor’s degree or experience in Education, Interpretation, Environmental Science or a related field; combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to work in the field and in classrooms with groups of students. Must be a US Citizen and able to read, speak, and write the English language clearly.

Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Washington State Drivers’ License and own vehicle to drive to field sites. May need to occasionally lift objects up to 50 lbs.

[volunteer]: Polliwog Preschool @ Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center

  

At Polliwog Preschool, held at the Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center in Bellevue, we focus on developing the whole child – socially, emotionally, mentally and physically – while initiating them into a lifelong, meaningful relationship with the natural world. The program is play-based and student-driven with stations to choose from, discovery exploration times and specific activities that relate to a seasonal theme each week. Activities are designed to address each child’s developmental needs while encouraging curiosity, fostering love of nature and developing the whole child.

 

The Polliwog Preschool program at the Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center in Bellevue is looking for volunteers. This is not only a great opportunity for any PoE student looking to get experience with environmental education, but is also a way to connect with PoE alumna Jackie Wilson.
