Nonprofit Fundraising Study

A group of researchers in the School of Forest and Environmental Sciences and the Department of Economics at the University of Washington is conducting a study to learn more about mechanisms used by nonprofit organizations to raise funds for providing public goods and services.

Students at the University of Washington who are over 18 years in age are eligible to participate. No specific knowledge or skill is required. Participation in this study is completely voluntary.

The study will involve  participating in a computer based experiment on decision-making. To thank the participants for their time, they will receive $5 for showing up at the specified location and time. They will additionally be awarded between $5 and $80 based on their choices in the study.

Enrollment is limited to 12 students in each time slot. If more than 12 students show up, participation will be based on a first-come-first-served basis. If not selected to participate, $5 will still be paid for showing up. 

This study should take no more than 2 hours of your time.

The Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) is a non-profit based in Seattle, Washington. PNWER promotes regional cooperation to enhance the economic strength, global competitiveness and environmental integrity of our member states and provinces. PNWER’s membership includes legislators, business leaders, and government officials from the U.S. States of Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Montana and Washington, and the Canadian jurisdictions of Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Yukon and Northwest Territories.

Internships position is part-time, unpaid 15-20 hours per week. There are three positions available, two Working Group and Event Support internships and one Disaster Resilience and Emergency Planning internship. [paid internship]: Basel Action Network: Programming intern

Basel Action Network (BAN) is a non-profit 501©(3) located in Pioneer Square advocating for global Environmental Justice. Our body of work includes preventing the export of toxic wastes, toxic products, and toxic technologies from the developed countries to developing countries.

 

BAN is currently seeking a programming intern to start as soon as possible. The intern will be responsible for the migration of our current web content (text, tables, graphs and other related material) into our Wiki using Wikipedia Markup. The work will involve copy, pasting and then properly formatting the text.

 

Knowledge, familiarity and comfort with formatting web content into Wikipedia Markup is a requirement.

You must know how to format the following in Wiki Markup:

·         Basic text formatting (italic/emphasis, bold, strike, indent, etc.)

·         Page formatting (headings, horizontal rules, ordered and unordered lists, etc.)

·         Data Tables, Images, and Links formatting

·         Referencing and Citing

·          

The project will be a 1-month project; this is a part-time position at 20 hours a week with flexible hours. Compensation is $10.00/hr.

[volunteer] Friends of Cedar River Watershed habitat restoration

Friends of Cedar River Watershed are looking for students in environmental programs at the University of Washington to come join restoration efforts this winter. FCRW is a local non-profit organization with a mission to engage people to enhance and sustain watersheds through restoration, education, and stewardship. 

Restoration projects run on Saturdays, from approximately 10:00AM – 2:00PM. All ages and skills are welcome!

Interns must be willing to work at a variety of activities, and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.  Interns will have the opportunity to interface with regional legislators and industry leaders while gaining experience in a small office setting.

Working Group and Event Support Internship (two positions available):

The 2012 Winter Meeting will host over 100 public and private sector business leaders in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho this November 14-17. Internships will balance meeting logistics with planning working group sessions such as Energy, Mining, Agriculture, Innovation, Workforce and others as needed. Interns will work closely with working group staff leads, and the co-chairs of each working group. Co-chairs are volunteer stakeholders, typically one legislator and one private sector lead. This intern will assist with event logistics including:

  • Manage correspondence with event attendees, sponsors and board members, such as producing and editing invitations, acknowledgement letters and follow-up letters
  • Assist in the coordination and support of PNWER’s working groups, including arranging conference calls, note-taking and agenda development
  • Design promotional materials, assemble packets and programs
  • Prepare collateral materials for events
  • Track current and potential sponsors using database website Salesforce.com
  • Manage event registrations, tracking invoicing and receipt of payment
  • Develop content for bi-weekly PNWER newsletter
  • Maintain and develop PNWER website

Invasive Species and Environment Policy Working Group Intern (one position available):

The Invasive Species and Environment Policy intern will assist with the Invasive Species and Environment working groups. This will include development of sessions for the 2012 Winter Meeting and tackling projects outlined in the 2012-2013 Invasive Species working group action plan. Duties may include:

  • Assisting in the coordination and support of the PNWER Invasive Species and Environment working groups, including arranging conference calls, note-taking, and agenda development
  • Researching regional invasive species resources
  • Researching invasive species and environmental policy, and maintaining a database

FIGHT FOR A FAIR ECONOMY
As a Campaign Director, you’ll be a part of building a Fair Share Alliance organization in your community and raising the profile of our issues to make a real impact in the lives of your friends, family and neighbors. Campaign Directors are responsible for building the grassrootsmovement to help everyday people have access to the American Dream. Specifically, you’ll run alocal campaign office to conduct grassroots fundraising, build membership for Fair Share Alliance and support for our issues, turnout voters for the elections and keep the heat on the 1% in the media.

RESPONSIBILITIES
You’ll work on a team with other directors to run a successful campaign office. Each Director will be responsible for:

Staff Management
• Recruit and manage a 10-25 staff members to sign on thousands of members in your area to support our work and our issue campaigns.
• Train staff on effective canvassing and grassroots campaign skills.
• Develop new leaders and the next generation of political activists.

Grassroots fundraising and membership building
• Lead the effort to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars and recruit thousands of members for the organization locally. Specifically, meet or exceed your office’s goals for fundraising and membership.
• Canvass three or more days a week to raise money, identify supporters, sign up members and train staff.
• Manage all day-to-day administrative tasks related to fundraising, building membership, campaign and election work and general office management.

Issue Campaigns and Election Field Work
• Work with local coalitions of like-minded organizations, elected leaders and businesses.
• Run media events to raise the profile of our issues.
• Organize grassroots lobbying events and in-district meetings with elected officials.
• Work with the Fair Share Alliance political team to devise a local strategy for reaching out to base and swing voters.
• Recruit volunteers and staff to talk face-to-face with thousands of voters.
• Target and turn out our supporters to vote.

TRAINING
Training is designed to give the skills and confidence needed to tackle the challenges of building a movement. In classrooms and in the field, you’ll work with experienced staff to learn all the skills of campaign directing, including recruitment, leadership development, staff management, public speaking, media, fundraising, canvassing, and administrative management.

QUALIFICATIONS
We’re looking for smart leaders ready to launch a project in their state.  Passion for the issues, strong work ethic, ability to work on a team and follow direction are a must.

We have offices in AZ, CA, CO, FL, IA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, NE, NH, NM, NV, OH, OR, PA,TX, VA, and WI.

SALARY/BENEFITS
Campaign directors will make $23,750 in their first year and $24,250 in their second year. Benefits include college loan assistance, two weeks paid vacation, paid holidays and paid sick days. Campaign Directors are also eligible to opt into one of our state health coverage plans. Salary and benefits differ in CA and MA.  We are looking for candidates for a one-year commitment, but we are open to applicants who are only available in the summer.
