SummaryThe Assistant Park Ranger I is a part time 1040 position offered through the Bellevue Parks & Community Services Department Natural Resource Division.  This position is a front line customer service position directly in contact with the public on a daily basis.  The Assistant Park Ranger I provides environmental program development and delivery, patrolling, marketing, staffing and environmental interpretive support.  The position reports to the Park Ranger.

Hours: Part-time and on the weekends.

Salary: Starting minimum $14.74 per hour

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Program assistance to the Park Ranger.
  • Design and implement adult and family environmental education and interpretive programs for the Lewis Creek Visitor Center.
  • Provide outreach to the public and communicate park rules and policies to users in a professional and courteous manner. 
  • Provide support at other Natural Resource facilities, Visitor Centers and during events, as needed.  Duties include facility staffing, responding to customer inquiries, and program delivery.  Tasks may include opening/closing facilities, answering phones, greeting visitors, conducting surveys, monitoring rentals, working on assigned projects and keeping a neat and clean Visitor Center.
  • Creating and coordinating interpretive displays and brochures.
  • Position may involve leading weekly canoe tours during summer months.
  • Conduct park patrol duties including park/trail patrols, providing customer service to park patrons, educating patrons regarding park rules and regulations, maintaining visitation and patrol logs, and conducting park/trail inspections.
  • The position may also provide administrative support and programming assistance to other Parks Department and Natural Resource Division program areas as needed.

The City of Bellevue is hosting the fourth annual Master Naturalist Training Program – a free 13 week program that educates volunteers on the importance of ecological restoration and preservation. Through a series of in-class lectures, field trips, workshops and restoration projects, volunteers will learn about the area’s wildlife ecology, wetland management, forest restoration, plant identification, cultural history and much more. In exchange for this free environmental training, naturalists are expected to reciprocate at least 5 volunteer hours per month up to 100 hours of service in the care of Bellevue’s natural resources. Applications are due Friday, January 11, 2013. Preference will be giving to Bellevue residents. The Well KEPT Program is a summer youth employment program offered through the Natural Resource Division of the Parks & Community Services Department. We are hiring two Well KEPT Program Supervisors to manage the group of teens this summer. The program is designed to provide Bellevue youth with education, job skills, and career development training in the field of park resource management. Work focuses on parkland renovation and maintenance; projects may include forest enhancement, wetland restoration, and trail construction. The Well KEPT Program combines on-the-job work experience, environmental education, and career development training to instill strong self-esteem, good work habits, and sound environmental ethics.
