Info Session: Life is Calling. How Far Will You Go?

Serving in the Peace Corps is a great way to immerse yourself in a new culture, learn a new language, and have the experience of a lifetime. Join us at this information session to learn about Volunteer experiences, have your questions answered, and gain tips to guide you through the application process.


Great thought for Juniors that are starting to think about what they want to do after graduation. This could be a great opportunity to learn about how you can apply to depart for Peace Corps service in the summer of 2015. Peace Corps is looking for volunteers to serve in Youth, Health, Business, Education, Environment and Agriculture!


Peace Corps Information Session

For all of you that are interested in the Peace Corps, an information session will be held on campus tomorrow! It is a good chance to learn more about the program and have any questions answered that you may have.

When: May 16th from 4:00-5:30pm

Where: Parrington Hall 108


Interested in joining or learning more about Peace Corps? Go to the “Peace Corps Through the Decades” panel that will be taking place this Wednesday, March 6th 6:00pm-7:30pm in Thomson 125.

The panel will consist of returned volunteers who have served in the 1960’s to volunteers who recently arrived back home. The volunteers on the panel have served in Africa, South America, and in the South Pacific and been involved in projects focused on health education, environmental awareness, and community economic development. It will be an interesting opportunity to learn more about the history of Peace Corps, how things have changed, and how things have remained the same.


There is a strong need right now for Peace Corps applicants who have an interest in serving abroad in developing countries. Volunteers are currently working in 83 countries on environmental issues, in health education, agriculture, and are also teaching English.

Learn about the how you can put your skills to work serving a community abroad and the benefits of Peace Corps service. This will be a joint information session with City Year, an AmeriCorps organization that coordinates one year teaching positions in urban schools. Come talk to a representative, learn more about the application process, and how to make yourself a more competitive applicant! We hope to see you there.

Are you interested in Peace Corps after graduation? Want to know what it’s like to serve? Do you have any questions about the application process? Are you curious about how you can make yourself a more competitive applicant? Here is your opportunity to have all of your questions answered.

The Peace Corps UW Campus Representative, and Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Morocco 08-10), will be available today from 12:30-1:20 in Thompson Hall 317. There, Phil Hayes will be talking about Peace Corps overall, his personal experience serving in Morocco, and also the rewards, challenges, and benefits of being a volunteer. Towards the end there will be plenty of time for a question and answer session.

The University of Washington is recognized as the top producing university for Peace Corps volunteers. Currently, more than 100 UW alumni are serving in the Peace Corps, and since the program’s inception in 1961, a total of 2,540 such alumni have served.

What do Peace Corps volunteers do?

Peace Corps Volunteers work in the following areas: education, youth outreach, and community development; business development; agriculture and environment; health and HIV/AIDS; and information technology. Within these areas, the specific duties and responsibilities of each Volunteer can vary widely.

Where do Peace Corps volunteers go?

The Peace Corps works in countries from Asia to Central America, and from Europe to Africa. In each of these countries, Volunteers work with governments, schools, and entrepreneurs to address changing and complex needs in education, health and HIV/AIDS, business, information technology, agriculture, and the environment.

The Peace Corps application process can take from 6-12 months, so if you are at all interested, now is the time to start planning!
