[training]: King County Master Recycler Composter

Seattle Tilth is working with the King County Solid Waste Division to improve recycling rates, and we’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our team of Master Recycler Composters. This is an excellent opportunity for students who are passionate about recycling to gain valuable experience in educational outreach. Volunteers receive in-depth training in curbside recycling – including food scrap recycling – then put their training to work at summer festivals and events. This opportunity is open to King County residents outside of the cities of Seattle and Milton only.

Requirements:
Must have a passion for recycling and waste reduction; be willing to work in all kinds of weather; have vehicle and be able to transport self to events throughout King County; have an outgoing personality; and be available to work event shifts Fridays, Saturdays, and/or Sundays. Must attend a two-part mandatory training session on May 3 and 10 from 9am – 2pm.

Time commitment: Maximum of 10 hrs / week during peak of season on Flexible times Friday, Saturday, Sunday at various events throughout King County.

There are 12 positions available for summer collegiate internship program with Waste Management. Recycle Corps interns receive intensive training from industry experts and well-rounded exposure to many facets of the recycling and composting industry, and receive hands-on experience in the field and real-world experience as recycling educators.

  • Paid internship, full-time (40 hours/week), Tuesday-Saturday from June 10 to August 30 (12 weeks)

Deadline: November 30, 2012

Salary: $12.77-16.18 hourly, depending upon level of education

Division: Department of Natural Resources & Parks – Recycling and Environmental Services 

Duration: January 2013 – December 2013 with potential for extension

Hours: The internship may work part time (approximately 15-20 hours a week) during the regular school year within the hours of 7:00AM – 5:00PM, Monday through Friday.

Description: The King County Solid Waste Division plans, develops and implements a variety of waste reduction and recycling programs that target residents, businesses and schools. Interns assist with the planning, development and implementation of various programs that employ progressive waste management policies and programs. One position will assist with Green Building and the other will assist with Waste Prevention and Recycling outreach programs.    

  • Assist with research, event planning and development of education and outreach materials for RES projects such as Recycle More campaign, Transfer Station recycling services, Green Building Program, Eco consumer, What Do I Do With (WDIDW) web site, Hazardous Waste collection programs, Green Schools, and Climate Change initiatives.
  • Assist with coordinating tours, meetings and other events for green building education.
  • Apply creativity and initiative in assisting with developing newsletters and promotional materials.
  • Assist with developing outreach tools, including social media tools and webinars, to engage new members in local product stewardship organization.
  • Assist with creating, editing and posting web pages
