Students will be provided with a stipend in addition to support for travel, room and board. Students will also receive post REU support to attend conferences and support subsequent REU programs or graduate programs. The application portal for the program will close on March 14th. The summer program will run from June 9th to August 15th.

What are you doing this summer? Nourish International at the University of Washington offers students the opportunity to intern with community-based development organizations around the world. Nourish connects students with an interest in development and relevant skills to our partner organizations to further develop and implement community-driven projects for 5 weeks between July and September 2014. This summer, Nourish UW will be going to Uganda to partner with the Rural Health Care Foundation (RHCF). Nourish members will be working alongside community volunteers to build clean water systems that will directly impact over 1,500 rural peoples.

Nourish International is a non-profit organization that serves as a platform for students to make long-lasting, global impacts within developing regions around the world. Washington Bus Summer Fellowship Program Description:
The Washington Bus Fellowship is an intensive, ten-week long leadership development program. Fellows spend the summer in Seattle, learning the fundamentals of grassroots organizing, public policy, community building, and social justice, through hands-on democracy.The Fellowship is a challenging and transformative experience that prepares young people to be Washington State’s next generation of civic leaders.
Eligibility: Bus Fellows come from across the country with a diverse range of experiential and cultural backgrounds, but there are some things they all have in common. To be a Bus Fellow, you must: 
  • Be between 18 and 25 years old.
  • Have a passion for civic engagement and a desire to learn about state and local politics.
  • Have strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Be an independent self-starter with the initiative to achieve complex goals.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work with a diverse team.
  • Have a good sense of humor and forward-thinking values.
The Washington Bus is a statewide organization which empowers young people to lead within their own communities. As a values driven organization, the Washington Bus Fellowship is dedicated to supporting young leaders from underrepresented communities.

Environment, Globalization and Heritage in Guatemalan Maya Communities

Learn how to design, conduct and write-up qualitative, ethnographic research while on the shores of a crystal lake framed by volcanoes! During the 7 ½ week program, live and work with a local Guatemalan family in the Lake Atitlán area of the Western Highlands. This is a hands-on, experiential-driven program where students design, plan and implement an independent, individualized project.
