A strong foundation of trust is one of the most important aspects of a healthy community; it is essential to successful environmental risk communication. Culture, language, and other facets of diverse communities play their parts in how and why a community is healthy yet are often seen as barriers to communication. During my internship, I developed an understanding of how people embrace their differences in order to communicate effectively and ensure a healthy community. By learning about the different types of environmental education and the Duwamish River knowledge base, I dove into the various methods used to communicate so well.
