Minor in Sustainability and Environmental Justice

A minor in Sustainability and Environmental Justice (SEJ) helps students apply a justice lens to the connections among sustainability, sovereignty, structural racism, climate change, biodiversity loss, and legal and governmental systems. Students will explore what it means to connect struggles for justice among humans to the ethical and political standing of other organisms and the natural world. The SEJ minor provides students will the knowledge and skills to effectively address justice in environmental issues using real-world applications, and to provide support to impacted communities.

Minor Requirements

Students completing the Sustainability & Environmental Justice (SEJ) Minor must complete a total of 25 credits, with at least 15 of those credits at the 300- or 400- level. A minimum 2.0 grade is required in each course applied to the minor.

Core Requirement

All students in the SEJ minor must take ENVIR 200, Sustainability and Environmental Justice.

Elective Courses

Elective courses fall into two categories; “Sustainability” and “Environmental Justice”. Students must take at least 5 credits in each category, with a maximum of 5 credits total at the 100- or 200- level. At least 15 credits must be from outside the student’s major requirements.

Capstone Seminar

Capstone courses provide the change to apply and synthesize learning by working collaboratively with students from a range of other majors. Students should choose one of the following courses for a total of 3-5 credits.
