The University of Washington is a leader in sustainability funding several projects a year that reduce environmental impact. One side of sustainability that had yet to be addressed was how sustainability can be increased in the arts, including how art can communicate ideas of sustainability. I worked with UW Sustainability to implement a Sustainability in the Arts (SITA) initiative on campus and conducted surveys and interviews of artists. Through my work I gained insight into how art can be used to communicate issues of environmental sustainability and how sustainability can be incorporated into artworks.
