During my project, I worked at Mezo research in Sydney, Australia looking at better ways to monitor recreational fishing. There is currently little regulation around recreational fishing in Australia, which is causing a problem when doing fish stock assessments. I was interested in finding innovative and relatively inexpensive ways to monitor recreational fishing. In order to do this I did an extensive literature review on the current status of recreational fishing in Australia, as well as worked with experts in the field in order to come up innovative solutions. This led me to trialing a smartphone app that recreational fishers can use to collect and record data.
