The purpose of this study was to find underlying motivations for and barriers to student involvement in environmental issues here in Washington state. I developed four strategies: workshops, short-term action items, creating a sense of community, and focus on relevance to break the barriers (education, time, stigma, self-confidence) presented by students who were surveyed in the study. By creating workshops and a community to help students increase their knowledge and confidence in advocacy, participation to environmental activities is promoted and provide new voices in environmental organizations in Washington state.
