This summer I interned with the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition, a non-profit organization that works with the community to ensure an effective cleanup of the Duwamish River. I assisted in organizing the entertainment for the Duwamish River Festival, an annual community event in South Park celebrating the Duwamish River and its communities. I was interested in studying how music can connect communities to urban natural environments, and the Duwamish River Festival was a great case study to explore this idea. I found that music has the potential to encourage place attachment, pro-environmental behaviors, and community building.
