The role of my Capstone was to assist in the development of the Green Sports Directory, an online database listing contacts and green programs and incentives for various metropolitan areas around the country. The directory is aimed to help managers of sports facilities make their practices greener and my role was to research programs for the metropolitan area of Chicago. I compiled the programs and incentives I found into an excel spreadsheet to be published in the Green Sports Directory. For my analysis paper, I did a literary review of the cultural significance of sports and how the importance of implementing greener practices could be communicated to fans. I found that because teams play such a large role in the cultural identity of communities, sports facilities have huge potential to successfully connect with fans and market the importance of sustainable practices to a large and diverse group of people.
