Changing Fire Regimes: Implications of Climate Change and Necessary Adaptations of Fire Management
For my Capstone I did an internship with the fuels management team of the Three Rivers Ranger District on the Colville National Forest. I gained first-hand knowledge and experience dealing with the issues and practices of wild fires which are addressed by land agencies. I was able acquire the knowledge to understand fundamental forest issues of fuel cycling, fire regime classification and scale, as well as the limitations of forest management. By using this knowledge about forest-fire relationships and fuel reduction programs, I was able to study the effects of climate change and investigate effective mitigation strategies.
