For my capstone project, I worked with UW Farm to open an off-campus farm stand which I continued to manage throughout the summer. I was interested in the benefits of urban farms, how these benefits related to social privilege, and how urban farms can help to create a more sustain- able and equitable food system. During my internship I noticed the positive effects that UW Farm seemed to have on volunteers, interns, and farm stand customers, and this led me to consider ways in which urban farms could be used to benefit low-income communities.
