Diversification of Food Leading to Cultural Awareness and Improving Social Capital in Some Low-Income Local Communities

During my project, I attended the New Holly and High Point Market Garden Farm stand under the P-Patch community garden programs and helped to implement the EBT machine in the market. I conducted surveys and did literature reviews on how the community garden influence the social capital of the community. The purpose of this study was to investigate how the food choices provided in the community garden would influence the social capital of the community. The results show that providing diversified food choices has a positive relationship to individual’s awareness of the culture differences in the community.
