From January through June 2015, I was a legislative intern at the Washington Environmental Council (WEC) working to promote their 2015 Priorities Transportation Safety Now and the Carbon Pollution Accountability Act. As a legislative intern, I assessed their current outreach strategies as well as investigated how the tools of social media have reinvented social activism and student mobilization. In addition to my work at WEC, I conducted a survey, online research and a literature review on which forms of media and outreach work best for mobilization. I discovered that using social media for outreach is extremely important as more individuals (young voters especially) obtain their news online.
