My research sought to understand how individual motivation influences employees’ choice to engage in environmentally-sustainable behaviors. My internship served as primary research in which I consulted with University of Washington departments and encouraged them to participate in the Green Office Certification (GOC) program. I was most interested in learning why participants chose to participate or not participate in voluntary sustainability-focused programs, and how these insights could be used to develop more effective programming. Coupling my primary research with a literature review on corporate social responsibility (CSR) helped me understand how this research may apply to CSR programs at corporations.
